Christ and the Church, Pt. 5
The Struggle
Ephesians 6:10-13

Introduction

This week we will continue in the current series about the basics of the church. Last Sunday we looked fully at the armor of God in Ephesians 6:14-20. This coming Sunday, we will look at the reason for the armor of God. Since the church consists of people in relationship with one another, it is important that we look at this particular passage of Scripture because it gives us the reason why we need to be armored up in God’s armor. Paul clearly says that our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against unseen spiritual forces. This is clearly drawing upon his previous comments about biblical relationships in chapter 5. He wants us to order our relationships properly understanding that when we encounter struggles and challenges, they are often the result of unseen spiritual forces. Instead of spending our time fighting those who we see in the flesh, we’re encouraged to fight the battle in the heavenly places.

Ephesians 6:10-13 (NASB)

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.
